Government of New Zealand Manaaki Scholarship Requirements
To be considered for the Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be 18 years old or older at the time they begin their scholarship.
- Meet both the academic entry requirements and English language proficiency requirements set by the respective educational institution.
- For postgraduate scholarship applicants or those who completed high school more than 3 years ago, relevant work experience is required. This can include paid, unpaid, or voluntary work and must meet one of the following criteria:
- At least one year of full-time work experience (30 hours or more per week), or
- At least two years of part-time work experience (up to 29 hours per week).
Benefits of the Government of New Zealand Manaaki Scholarship
The Manaaki Scholarship offers the following benefits:
- Full tuition fee coverage.
- A living allowance (stipend) of NZ$531 per week to assist with basic living expenses. If you begin your study program online from your home country, the stipend will be adjusted to reflect global living cost differences.
- An establishment allowance of NZ$3,000 to help with setup costs in New Zealand, such as accommodation, textbooks, or other study materials.
- Medical insurance coverage while in New Zealand.
- Tutoring costs up to NZ$1,000 to help with additional tutoring if needed during your studies.
- Travel expenses to and from your home country at the start and end of your scholarship.
- Travel insurance coverage.
- Travel home during the scholarship. Scholars studying for over 1.6 years are eligible for one or two trips home, depending on the length of the scholarship. This is subject to border regulations and other restrictions.
- A reintegration allowance of NZ$1,000 to assist with costs upon your return to your home country.
- Support for research and thesis costs for many postgraduate students.

4. Use your Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Account to access the online application system anytime between your country’s opening and closing dates.
5. Ensure that you submit your application before the deadline.
