The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) Scholarship Programme offers opportunities for Master’s and PhD researchers from Africa to advance their ongoing research at the institute. The scholarship provides funding to cover travel, settling, and living allowances. In addition, awardees are given a dedicated workspace with a personal computer to use while conducting their research at the institute.

Requirements for the 2026 Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship
The Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship is open to:
- Full-time staff employed by an African-based university or research centre, who are enrolled in a doctoral program within the African region and do not have access to an international scholarship.
- Postdoctoral researchers who are within 5 years or less of completing their PhD.
- All African nationals.
- Applicants must be affiliated with universities or research centres in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland.
Required Documents for the 2026 Nordic Africa Institute Scholarship
To apply online, candidates must upload the following documents:
- Up-to-date CV: Include a list of publications (if available online, provide links).
- Outline of Research Project (5 pages):
– A detailed research proposal.
- Work Plan (1 page):
– The plan should focus on the time spent at the Institute, including specific research objectives and expected results.
- Reference:
– A signed letter of support from the applicant’s Head of Department or another senior scholar in the same field, confirming current workplace/affiliation and research area.
